My first book was published in August 2020. The height of a pandemic is not the ideal time to gather with people to celebrate a book release, so back then, friends and family joined me on Zoom for a virtual birthday/book party. Four years later, I was excited to give Facing the Fracture a proper launch. Happily, my local bookstore, Chaucer’s, was enthusiastic to host an event, and Charles Donelan, Executive Arts Editor at the Santa Barbara Independent, agreed to be part of the program.

After a day of press releases, media interviews, and congratulatory messages, I was delighted when 75 friends, colleagues, students, and others showed up for the event! Charles asked thoughtful questions, the audience was engaged (and even sang me happy birthday), and I loved signing books and giving away friendship bracelets that I made for the occasion!

And then, on to the after party! Classic Santa Barbara restaurant, Harry’s, was the perfect location for a fun and relaxed celebration. Thanks, friends, for joining me!

I want to give a special shout out to Claudia Arnett. Her official role on my team is Social Media Goddess, but she is so much more. In our weekly meetings, she pulls ideas from me and helps me to articulate them in accessible ways. By amplifying my voice, she connects me with people who are seeking the type of resources I have to offer. Her warmth, insight, and encouragement keep my work moving forward and making a difference in the world. Also, she got these amazing cupcakes! Thanks, Claudia — you’re the best!
