This past year has been a rough one on college campuses, especially those that experienced public battles over national and international politics, free speech, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. As faculty, staff, and administrators shared their struggles, it inspired me to develop programming to meet the moment. In 2024, I offered talks and workshops that engaged faculty, staff, and students around how to address historical injustices within the context of higher education, political polarization, and the Israel-Gaza war. As brilliant and dedicated as students, faculty, and staff are, it’s not obvious how to navigate the challenges of teaching, learning, and creating community in a divided world. I’m so glad that I can support institutions of higher education as they strive to realize their promise in these difficult times. Below, I share a glimpse into my campus visits from the past year. Please reach out if you’re interested programming for your college.

Arizona State University

What a delight to return to my alma mater, ASU, where I received my doctoral degree. In addition to a campus keynote, I shared my career trajectory with graduate students in counseling psychology and visited some of my old haunts.

Foothill College

It was wonderful to visit Foothill College twice this year. Ajani Byrd and his team have been doing great work preparing faculty and staff to navigate division skillfully. Such a delight to engage with these committed members of the campus community!

Lafayette College

I spent two days at Lafayette College talking with faculty, staff, and students about promoting inquiry, wellness, and citizenship; shifting out of cancel culture; and The Wizard of Oz. A former RA myself, I loved doing a training for the Resident Advisors, all of whom received a copy of Beyond Your Bubble.

Georgia State University

I was honored when Professor Donnie Davis, who introduced me to the concept of intellectual humility, invited me to his campus to talk about how I’m using implementing these ideas to heal political division.

University of California, Santa Barbara

I didn’t have to travel far to offer programs at my home campus. As Associate Dean for DEI, I did several programs for the Gevirtz School of Education, I participated in Prof Slam, and I visited with a civic engagement class that’s reading Facing the Fracture!

A few more…

I hopped back and forth across the country and touched down at SUNY Oswego, University of San Francisco, University of Pennsylvania (where I received my undergraduate and masters degrees), University of Arizona, Texas Women’s University (virtual), and Antioch University in Santa Barbara. I offered programs for counseling center and wellness professionals, students, and the general public.
