Tania Israel is a Professor in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology and an Associate Dean for DEI in the Gevirtz School at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, a Masters degree in Human Sexuality Education, and a B.A. in Psychology and Women’s Studies. Dr. Israel is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA) and Past-President of the Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP). Her scholarship on interventions to support the mental health and well-being of LGBTQ individuals and communities has been solicited by the Institute of Medicine, Congress, and the White House. Her honors include 2019 Congressional Woman of the Year (CA 24th District), Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Award for Excellence in Mental Health from the California Asian & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, and Emerging Leader Award from the American Psychological Association Committee on Women in Psychology. Her TEDx talks (How to Win a Political Argument, What Halibut Fajitas Taught Me About Bridging the Political Divide, and Bisexuality and Beyond) have been viewed by many. She directs a research team at UCSB that develops and studies interventions to support the psychological health of LGBTQ individuals and communities.
